You pay around NZ$ 21000 first for your one-year study and pay the rest later when you apply to extend your student visa for a further 6 months. Course description

This on-campus course aims to equip you with the dispositions, knowledge, and skills to become critically reflective, intentional, adaptive and registered early childhood teachers in the bi-cultural context within New Zealand. By providing high-quality and guided practice in authentic settings, you will experience a deep commitment to language, culture, and identity as the foundation of children’s learning. Throughout your studies, you will participate in communities of practice to foster engagement in research and the integration of theory with practice.

Entry requirement – Academic

You need to hold one of the following qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree at Level 7 consisting of at least 360 credits; or
  2. Bachelor Honours’ degree at Level 8 consisting of at least 480 credits; or
  3. Master’s degree at Level 9 consisting of at least 240 credits

In addition to the above, you must have secured a B average grade or above during the course of your study or in your final year of study.

You don’t need to have your degree in education, it could be in any of the fields such as hospitality, commerce, medical or fine arts, etc. You may need to get your overseas qualification assessed from the New Zealand Qualification Authority in order to find out that you have already done a Level 7 qualification and can enrol into this course.

Employment opportunities

This course is specifically aimed at preparing graduates for registration as Early Childhood Education teachers. The student may also take the roles as leaders and managers in Early Childhood settings, Resource teachers, Education advisors, Curriculum advisors/developers, Policy analyst/advisors, Facilitators, Professional development and in-service teacher educators, Centre managers/supervisors/team leaders, Curriculum leaders, consultants, and Researchers. As per careers.govt.nz, qualified early childhood teachers usually earn $45K-$74K per year and senior early childhood teachers usually earn $74K-$98K per year.

English eligibility requirement

You will need an overall IELTS score of 7 with no less than 7.0 in any band or PTE (Academic) score of 65 in all bands or meet a relevant English Proficiency Outcome as outlined by the Teaching Council of New Zealand, to pursue this Master of Teaching ECE course. This test score does not have to be in a single test, you can combine more than one IELTS test within the last two years to show this required IELTS/PTE scores.

Immigration benefits

This course comes with numerous immigration benefits which are as follow:

  1. While applying for their student visa, the partner/spouse of a student is eligible for a work visa and visitor/student visas for their dependent children.
  2. After the successful completion of this one and a half years of Master of Teaching ECE course, a student will be eligible for three years Post Study Open Work Visa.
  3. Their family’s visas will also be extended for the same duration whether it is work/visitor/student visa.
  4. Dependent children who are on student visas will be treated as domestic students in New Zealand meaning they will pay their school fees at the rate a New Zealander will pay for their education.

Early Childhood Teachers are in high demand in New Zealand.
